History

Our Roots

The Brothers Grimm couldn't have told it better: the story of someone who set out to find his fortune.

Once upon a time, there was a young miller who had to leave his father's mill because it was destined for his older brother. So, he established a country trading business for grain and feed. One day, he watched a brewer at work and thought to himself: you could do that too. He took heart, bought the brewing pan from the brewer, and began brewing beer in 1934.

The young man was Ludwig Schweiger, born in 1896 as the second son in the Hanselmühle in Markt Schwaben. He purchased the brewing pan from Wimmer-Bräu in Altenerding.

Good Relationships and Foresight

With his country trade, Ludwig Schweiger delivered to homes and farms long before other breweries followed suit. And the farmers gladly bought their beer where they also got seeds and feed.

Own Malthouse

As one of the last breweries, we operate our own malthouse. When it was opened in 1963, other breweries began closing their own malthouses. What young Ludwig Schweiger founded back then would probably be called a craft beer brewery today.

Thus, Schweiger Bräu has always gone its own way. And we want to continue this path in the future, in the third and fourth generations.

Timelessly beautiful. Unchangingly excellent.

We took a lot of time to dress our heart and soul in a new design. Blood, sweat, and tears went into the process. In the end, we proudly introduced our beers with new labels but the same great taste to the market.

Carrying Values and Traditions into the future

Schweiger Bräu has always been a family-run and independent private brewery. Deeply rooted in our homeland of Markt Schwaben, we stand for tradition, craftsmanship, and quality.

Out of love for our heritage and history, we have been brewing beer for over four generations.
